On March 10, 2010, 48 states, 2 territories, and D.C. approved a draft of core standards for comment. While I have not personally reviewed these yet I am curious what others think. What do you think, not just of the core standards, but what of the group that put these standards together? What do you think of state governors coming together to create yet another set of standards?
Personally I think the governors should be looking into funding education, and leave creation of standards to professional organizations specializing in the various subject areas. These professional groups fund and perform studies to determine best practices. Teaching colleges should also be involved - and likely are - through these same organizations whose focus is on improving the transfer of knowledge.
I'll weigh in again after perusing these proposed standards.
